Elise Gaffney is an artist living in Appalachia, with roots deeply bound in the Rubber City–Akron, Ohio. Interested in light and presence and chasing the high of being a kid or a teen or an anyone driving in the car, music loud and the windows down, her photographic and installation work creates space for the vastness of feeling, perspective and shared experience. Moments, captured on film or phone or high-quality camera, the commonplace, the conscious acknowledgement that this–the blips, the sparks, the joy, the heartbreak–are all worthy of notice, of shifting, of evolving into something else. Her work has been exhibited in gallery spaces in Northeast Ohio and Tennessee, and have been included in national photography publications. Gaffney is a magna cum laude BFA candidate at East Tennessee State University, and a cum laude graduate of the Bachelor of Arts Communications program at The University of Akron.
